Review 11/13/2007

I had a technician from Roman Appliance Repairs come to my home to diagnose a problem with my washing machine. He determined that problem was with a circuit board and quoted me a price of $212 for a replacement part, indicating this was a discounted price. Labor to install the board was quoted as an additional $120.
I declined the replacement part and just paid the $30 service call fee. When I researched the part on-line, I found that it retailed for $130, and I was able to order a new part on ebay for considerably less than that. This was for exactly the same part number that Roman Appliance had specified. I called the technician to ask if they had made a mistake on the price of the part, but he never followed up.
Once the part arrived, it was simple to install and took me (with no previous experience) 15 minutes. If the technician had taken as much time as it took me and charged $120 labor, their hourly rate would translate to $480/hour. In the end, a repair for which Roman Appliance would have charged $332 cost me $70 and 15 minutes of time.
Based on this experience, I would recommend extreme caution in using the services of Roman Appliance Repair.
