I’m contacting this list on behalf of my mother-in-law, who would have difficulty making this complaint as she is 82 years old & legally blind. The 1st job the Drain Doctor performed was for 2 toilets replaced at her residence on 9/10/08 (A straightforward job that they charged $1,000 for). When she called them back because one of the toilets wasn’t operating correctly, the worker that came out to fix it asked if there was anything else they could do. She asked them to replace the bathroom & kitchen faucets &to spot-check under the house for any potential problems. They "found" a supposedly leaking 4’ foot section of 2” drain pipe that ran from the washing machine to the main drain line. I went under the house & found no evidence of a leak. While a new 2" drain line was replaced, the old pipe was left under the house. I spoke with the Office Manager, Simon, on the phone on 3/27/09, at which time I requested that he review the job that was performed by his company as material was left under the house (the old 2" drain pipe) & the bathroom faucet was of the wrong design (it had no drain plug controls). We also had an issue with overpricing that we now understand that, unfortunately, the BBB would not address. (They had charged $2,800 for replacing the 2" pipe and the bathroom faucet. Materials were estimated at no more that $400 meaning the labor charge for 1/2 days worth of work for two guys was $2,400 or $300/hr.) He stated that he would look into it & call me back. After 3 weeks with no word from them I sent a certified letter to both Simon & the owner. Shortly thereafter, Simon called & stated that he "forgot" to offer my mother-in-law the Senior Discount of 10% (or $280), but offered no solutions to the other performance issues.
After being contacted by the BBB, they sent the repairmen out to clean up under the house and fix the bathroom sink, but they could not break down the ridiculously high charge of $2,800. They have now reneged on the 10% offer for the senior discount.
I would stay clear of these guys as anyone who would take advantage of an elderly blind woman does not deserve your business.
