I was laid off from my job working for the city six months ago, and shortly afterward my husband took a substantial pay cut in his line of work in construction due to the economic downturn. Unfortunately, we still had the same mortgage payment we could now not afford on a home we were upside down in and thus couldn’t refinance. Our lender was no help, and I was literally forced at the end of the day to choose between buying groceries for my family or paying my mortgage payment.
